How can i prepare for my first session?
Your first session will be the free consultation. This consultation, like every discussion, is completely confidential. We’ll talk about the eight dimensions of wellness and identify your goals. During this discussion we’ll also explore any obstacles that may be holding you back. We’ll decide whether coaching sessions are the best path, and if so we’ll schedule sessions thereafter.
HOW is coaching different from talk therapy?
According to the National Institute of Mental Health, talk therapy, often called counseling or psychotherapy, is a general term for a variety of treatment techniques that aim to help a person identify and change troubling emotions, thoughts and behavior. Talk therapy tends to focus on the past and the events and experiences in our lives that shaped us. The provider works with the patient to develop healthy coping skills to address the condition or conditions. Wellness coaching is fully integrative, meaning we see emotional wellness as a part of the whole spectrum of what it means to be well. Wellness coaching is forward-looking and addresses every dimension of our lives so we can reach an optimal state of well-being.
HOW LONG WILL I NEED COACHING?
Your vision is unique to you and the initial coaching sessions will include an assessment of where you are now and where you desire to be. In addition we’ll collaborate on a plan together. Ideally, after a few sessions, you will be on your way towards your goals and will no longer need weekly sessions. Perhaps you will opt for a periodic check-in session or a reconnection if you want to modify or add goals.
